Odes

We have so much to celebrate, don't we?  Is there a better way to celebrate or praise those we love or admire than in an ode?  As you read our odes, look for the literary devices we used.  Enjoy!

  1. Ode to My Shield, My Sword

You both nurtured and protected me.
You both taught me with great care.
    Every time I’ve needed you,
you were always there for me,
    like a supersonic jet.

    No matter what.
You treat me like a princess, still
    I stab your feelings
    with harsh words
But after I cut the both of you to pieces,
    I regret it. I’m such a monster.

    I’m so grateful
to have you, my shield and sword,
    To protect me
    To remind me
    o fight back.

    I won’t forget
    the time you
My dream come true with the giant yellow fork stuffed toy.
    And watched my eyes
    Fill with shimmery stars.

    The smell of your clothes
Always makes me feel I’m home.
    Forever together
    your love never ends.
No matter what age… I’ll always
    Need my parents.

  2. Ode to My beautiful Mom

Me able to call you my Mom makes me so me feel proud of you
I am so happy calling you my mom
I am so thankful to have you
Having you is like watching fireworks,
Cause I don’t feel anything but happiness
I love you and I’m so lucky to have you
Having a mom like you is like a bear,
Who i can hug whenever i feel down
I just want to say that I’m so thankful and grateful for you
I don't have a lot to say but,
    I love you
    I will never leave you.

  3. Ode to my Phone

In the morning, I wake up and
    I watch its screen,
    To check time
    To check date

    After finishing class,
    I watch its screen
    To play games
    To watching videos

    Before sleeping
    I put it nearby me
To check time in next day
To check date in next day

    It is necessary to me
    like breath and clothes

How can I imagine my life without my phone?

  4. Ode to mother
A life with you is like a flower in a garden
    always beautiful.
    You taught me how to
    respect people
and be kind like a teacher
    teaching his or her students.
Even though I don’t always listen
to you, you always love me.
When I get too close to the edge
    And stumble off a cliff
You're always there to catch me. I don’t have money to repay all
    the actions
    You’ve taken to keep safe,
always make me safe from danger.
Like one mother bird that protects her babies.
    but money will go,
but the love will stay forever.
You are the sunshine of my life.

  5. My cousins
Different parents but act like we’re siblings
    A lot of cousins,
    A lot of memories.
Losing my cousins is like lung
My cousins are like a siblings to me
They might be annoying sometimes, but
I need them as I need
    Cousins are gold
Who is always there to make you happy whenever you are feeling down
    Cousins are the blanket,
That keeps you warm when you’re cold
Cousins are the blocks on a sturdy building
they are walls, blocking the hatred

  6. Ode to My Sister
    She's my beautiful Unicorn. She
    Laughs.I
    Laugh Louder. She
    Smiles. I
    Run miles. We
    Might fight four times. We
Fix it with chips and dip. She
    Is like a butterfly. She
Loves to soar and explore.. She
    Draws with amazing thought. I
    Miss her a lot. I
    Wonder.
    Does she miss me
    the way I miss her?

  7. Ode to Grandma

You’re the reason my mom was born,
You’re the reason I was born.
You kept me safe when my mom was working late,
You gave me a lot of good food that I ate.
We used to go to the playground to play,
I would always run away from you when we played,
You were like a zombie chasing me for my brains.

    You’re like a bodyguard,
Keeping me safe while I was asleep,
You taught me how to swim in the deep.
    Those days life was easy,
I wish you were here to teach me,
    Teach me how to live,
But now you’re with your real kids:
My uncles, aunties, in the mainland.

Now mom is taking care of me,
    But she’s so boring,
She always sleeping like a koala,
    She sleeps so much.
But she still keeps me alive,
She gives me food to survive,
    A roof to live under,
    If you come back,
Will it still be fun I wonder?
I’ll be good until you return Grandma,
So I can get good karma.
