Odes: an expression of celebration and praise

Aloha!  This week we've been learning about odes.  Using metaphors, similes, and imagery, we've created odes celebrating and praising people we love, things we admire, or things we love to do.  Please enjoy our odes.

  1. Ode To My Friends

    A group of friends,
    from different places
    A group of friends,
    a group of memories
Losing friends is like losing a sock,
you'll never find its perfect match
True friends is a four-leaf clover,
hard to find, but lucky to have
Our squad is like a bouquet of yellow Triumph tulips,
    strong and gold
    Friends are pillows,
who are always there to comfort
Friends are the blocks on a sturdy building,
they are walls, blocking the hatred
Such a lucky girl I am, for having a friends like them.

  2. Ode to Sister
    By:RD125

My sister is one of my best friends
She’s like a blooming flower in a garden full of flowers
We fight like a dog and a cat, but I love her so much more than I love myself
We fight for the chicken adobo that my mom cooks
Yet she's innocent like an angel
An angel that comes to the earth
    That god give us
She’s beautiful like snow that falls on the ground
I feel worried when she cries
My heart breaks like glass when she falls
My heart melts like ice when she says ate to me
I miss every memory that we’ve made
Every little thing, funny and sad
I cry because I miss all these things
Even though we're not together right now,
She’s in my heart and mind forever.

    2. I really like this poem! I like the simile you used ". We fight like a dog and a cat" Everything you say it's just so true! sisters will always fight, cry, laugh, smile, etc. I really love all the similes you used. I can relate to this poem because I love a lot my sisters and she can be my best friend too! But it's been years since the last time I saw her and I really miss her.

  3. Ode to My Mom

My mom is like a concrete shelter.
    She always protects me.
She doesn’t want me to burn from the sun.
She is my shelter ,when it’s raining.
She is my napkin , wiping my tears when I’m crying.
She always comforts me when no one else does.
She is like a blanket that i want to cuddle with.
She is my sunshine after my pain.
    She is my Comforter.
    Her happiness is my smile.
Her smile is sweet as chocolate.
Her hugs is cold like ice.
I feel i found already immortality when I’m with her.
    My mom is my life.

    1. I love this poem and I like how you use simile in the beginning "mom is like a concrete shelter" because it's true mothers will always protects you no matter what. She's my very first best friend in the world. Whenever I'm down, she'll always be there for me and remove my pains. But sometimes I don't respect her the way the respect me, I really really regret that, but I'm trying my best to be the best daughter. If it wasn't for her, I won't be able be where I'm standing out right now. I Love my mom so much and I miss her. (we're apart for now, but hopefully she'll be here soon with us).

  4. My mom is like a mama bear.
Mama bear that will claw for her cub.
    Always protecting me from danger.
She is my sunshine on a rainy day.
A sunshine that make me happy.
Sunshine that cheers me up when I’m sad.
My mom is lovely like a dog.
A dog that always play with me.
A dog that can be moody sometimes.
    My mom is a flower.
    Beautiful like a flower.
A flower that blooms in the dark.
My mom is my best friend.
My best friend that I always talk to.
My best friend that hangs out with me every day.

  5. Ode To My Family

The best gift that I wish for is my family.
A shine is like my family that is making you feel the best.
My family is the best thing that I could have in my entire life.
My heart for my family is as big as the whole universe.
It’s nice that my family means so much to me.
My family is important as the world.
An angel is like my family.
My family are the humans that I love the most in my heart.
    My happiness is my family.
A universe is like my family.
My family is like a wonderful dream that you never want to wake up from.
My family is as good as the day.
The right thing that I can choose first is my family.
My family is working hard for the future.
My family is like my world that I wouldn't want to lose.

  6. Ode to my MOTHER
    by:_razor
    My mother is my Earth
    When our relationship is disrupted
Pieces of my heart fall apart
When I drown in my anxiety
She sails through the chaos to save me
She is like the Earth She gave all of that is needed to live
She is like a penguin, blanketing me from cruelty
I, a wild seal in her palm,
Yet she holds me like a Hammock supported by father
I was the definition of impulsive
Yet she never hesitates to show the diamonds in my core
She is the atmosphere, protecting me
She suffered because of my doings
Yet she is pleased to see me safe and free

  7. Ode to my Mom
    By: J4

    Mama,
I know why you're strict as a mother dog.
You are a strict mom who never just say yes to anything I ask
    I understand that.
I understand that being strict to your child can protect them.
    You are funny yet stubborn
You are always right, as you say
But who can I blame? You're almost 64.
You are patient like a Capybaras, you're
always listening to whatever i complain about and never scold me
You are my role model whom I admire and look up to a lot.
A role model who taught me what's right and wrong.
You are fireworks, bursting with elegant colors
You are a lion standing firm on her ground to protect her baby.
Your soothing voice is music to my ears
and your confidence level is higher than my grades
You are my mo and I thank you for being the mom that you are now.
    I love you <3

-Capybaras is the most patient animal. It's a South American mammal that resembles a giant long-legged guinea pig. It lives in groups near water and is the largest living rodent.

  8. Oak to my tree
    By: TonganSamoan
My oak tree wears a birdhouse
like a lockect on a limb.
He loves to hold the birds.
    They always sing to him.

The oak tree sways in time to songs
of the sky imagines travels overland.
But he is rooted to the earth.
An oak tree must forever stand.

The oak tree may also sunshine on him
    when is singing.
But he doesn't shine when he is
    not feeling the spirit.

The oak tree is like an cold nice breeze.
It is as hot like a volcano when it's hot
    on outdoors.

    by: 1234abc

My brother is calm like the silent water.
Hes big like an elephant but looks like a dwarf.
Hes like my shield when it comes to problems.
Hes a fearless tiger but kind as a dog.
Hes is a wise cat but dumb like a dog.
    hes a cup of tea
Hes dumb, strong like an jaguar sprinting threw the morning sunshine
He is independent like a tiger.
    He is my best friend.
He is like an Ant, small but strong
he is my friend because he helps me when I need help, he is my savior.
    he sometimes annoying
    he is a raccoon.
but he is still my best friend

All thanks to you, you’ve allowed me to be free
But the round ends today for you my friend
    It’s time to bid farewell.
I have more places to go and things to do
And many stories to tell so out with the
Old and on with the new a new journey
The store for me for it’s time to put away
The past and say hello to my brand knee.

  11. Ode to Hunting

Me and my friends dress like a tree
But their scent is in the breeze
Me and my friends try to climb up high
    Tip toe in so quiet
But that pig not gonna buy it
But they can sense something’s wrong
Pigs in the graze just out of range
Now why'd we think that was far
How far the bullet can fly

  12. Ode to My Mama Chihuahua
    by Althi

    A life with you
    is a life worth living
    even at your worst
    like a tornado ripping
    everything apart
    you still make me feel
    as the sun does
    when it shines
    on the lake.
    Every breath you take
    is for my happiness.
    I am unable to repay
    all the actions
    you've taken to keep
    me safe.
    You're the
    Mama Chihuahua who
    keeps her puppies
    from danger.
    You are the blanket
    that keeps me
    warm when I'm cold
    from life's storms.
    So in return,
    for everything
    that I've accomplished,
    I will dedicate it
    to your name.

  14. Ode to The Bond
    by Hanntahh

    The bond
Between a child and a mother
    Can never be severed.
    Carrying me
    And feeding me
    Sharing with me
    Her food, her mana
    Through the umbilical cord
    The cord was cut
    But the bond remains
    It lasts forever.
    As i grew,
    I became my own person
But I will remember the woman
    Who nurtured me
    And who taught me
    Everything I know today
    And who I know
    I will always love
And who will always love me.

  15. Poetry is trees falling with no one around to hear.
Poetry is like a rose bloom in the winter.
Poetry is about words being orchestrated to strike with joy, anger or fear.
Poetry is as important as conveying your ideas in a vague, yet meaningful assortment of one's vocabulary.
Poetry is a s pointless as living indefinitely in a world created for mortals.
Poetry means to show yourself and all your opinions and morals.
    Poetry is poetry.
